Ok, so this blog is basically a repository of my various (random) thoughts, ideas, and even projects. Being faced with diabetes, I have never been more motivated to get my health in order and have been reforming my diet over the past several months. I initiated this process using the “7lbs in 7 Days” program by Jason Vale, who has a beautiful app on the iTunes App Store. After finishing that program successfully, I then moved on to read the “14lbs in 14 Days” program and started that program (but had to stop as I was leaving town for a conference).
I was able to slim down a pants size, from a 38-36 to 34. I also started to love consuming fruits and vegetables and my cravings for junk food and processed foods rescinded. In short, I have been able to drastically reform my eating habits which will help regulate my blood sugar levels and, ultimately, get me off of my pump.
Another modality that has been very beneficent to my health, and just getting me to think about getting free of the pump, has been acupuncture. More on that in another post.
So this is a third component – physical fitness. If I can get my body back to optimal health, then my body will perform better in all aspects of my life. (Focusing on diet, fitness, and bodily functioning are the main goals to getting my body healthy.) I have deemed this Project: Man of Steel in honor of the latest Superman movie. For some reason, or actually for many reasons, that movie has haunted me ever since I have seen it. I grew up loving Superman and the treatment he got in this latest movie was very deserving and uplifting.
As a dedication to my childhood hero I want to make it my physical goal to get my body in Superman shape. So, I am going to undertake a very intense physical regime to achieve this.
I am going to start this week by going to workout 5 days a week. That means July 1st-5th I will spend at least one hour each day going through a series of workouts designed by my trainer. Next week, I am thinking I will up my work out regimen to 2 times a day, for about 10 hours a week. Weekends will be spent recovering.
I will also record measurements throughout the project and list any pertinent information as I go forward.
To start, here we go:
- Date: 7/1
- Time: 6:30-7:37
- Workout: 10 minute double jump rope; squats with half body weight (31-21-11-9-9-9-9); burpees with 2 pushup intervals (31-21-11-9-9-9-9); the goal is to do this in 17 mins.
- Weight: 198lbs
- Notes: Todays workout was brutal. I wasn’t really consistent in my approaches and found it very hard to finish any of the sets. I also started out lifting 95lbs and had to gradually reduce the weight just to get through my sets.
I will post new entries each day. I will do so, though, not on the front page, but in the forum to make it easier to drop a quick note.
